SR. ACCOUNTANT

Sr. Accountant

Pay range: $63,000–$70,000 annually (within overall range of $59,000–$89,000 annually)

The New Hampshire Retirement System (NHRS) is seeking a detail‑oriented Sr. Accountant to support the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports for the NHRS Trust Fund. This position plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting audits and the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR), and ensuring compliance with Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) standards and other applicable accounting principles.

• Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reports to support monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting activities.
• Assist with the month‑end and year‑end close process, including general ledger maintenance and resolution of discrepancies.
• Support the preparation of the NHRS Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) and provide documentation for internal and external audits.
• Prepare cash flow projections and monitor account reconciliations to support NHRS financial operations.
• Assist with budget preparation, financial analysis, and reporting related to NHRS business operations.
• Develop and maintain written accounting procedures and provide guidance and support to accounting team members.
• Collaborate with Finance Team members on strategic initiatives, process improvements, and cross‑functional projects.

Education: Bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university with a major study in accounting, finance, business administration or economics. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience: Five years of progressive work experience in accounting, auditing, or financial management. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required education.
