The Estimator will play a key role in preparing accurate, competitive cost estimates that support bidding and project planning efforts for commercial drywall, steel framing, and related interior systems work. This position requires strong analytical skills, construction knowledge, and the ability to work cross-functionally with project managers, field leadership, and clients.
Key Responsibilities- Review and analyze project drawings, specifications, and scopes of work for commercial construction projects.
- Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs for materials and labor (drywall, metal framing, insulation, ceilings, barriers, etc.).
- Develop complete cost estimates including labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and general conditions.
- Collaborate with project managers and field personnel to verify assumptions, gather pricing, and ensure accuracy.
- Prepare proposals, bid packages, and support documentation for submission to general contractors.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and subcontractor/vendor pricing negotiations.
- Apply value-engineering judgment to identify cost savings without compromising quality.
- Maintain estimating databases and cost history files for future bid preparation.
- Proven estimating experience in commercial construction subcontracting — preferably in drywall, metal stud framing, or interior systems.
- Strong understanding of commercial construction means & methods
, materials, and labor scopes. - Proficiency in takeoff and estimating software (e.g., Planswift, Bluebeam, Excel).
- Excellent analytical, math, and organizational skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities.
- Comfortable engaging with vendors, subcontractors, and client representatives.
- Construction degree, technical certification, or related industry training preferred but not required.
