The State of New Hampshire, Department of Transportation, Bureau of Highway Maintenance, has a full-time vacancy for a Highway Maintenance Project Engineer.
SUMMARY
:
To formulate, plan, direct and evaluate multiple professional administrative civil engineering and supervisory functions involving the operation of a Highway Maintenance District.
YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS:
Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience:
Education:
Possession of a Master of Science degree from a recognized college or university with a major concentration in civil engineering, or possession of a Bachelor of Science degree from a recognized college or university with a major in civil engineering and possession of a Master of Business Administration degree from a recognized college or university.
Experience:
One year of work experience in the practice of civil engineering post Professional Engineer registration.
OR
Education:
Possession of a Bachelor's of Science degree from a recognized college or university with a major concentration in civil engineering.
Experience:
Three years' work experience in the practice of civil engineering post Professional Engineer registration.
OR
Education:
Possession of an Associate's degree from a recognized college or university, with a major study in civil technology.
Experience:
Five years' work experience in the practice of civil engineering post Professional Engineer registration
License/Certification:
1. Professional Engineer (PE) License with designation in Civil, Civil Highway, Geo Technical or Structural Engineering
2. Valid driver's license and/or access to transportation
Other Requirements:
The applicant's Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet the minimum standards as established by the hiring agency.

AFTER-HIRE REQUIREMENTS:
Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of New Hampshire within one year of employment.

RESPONSIBILITIES
:
Supervises, plans, coordinates and directs the design and construction of multiple complex transportation projects within the district to assure compliance with Department goals and requirements. Responsible for the preparation of cost estimates relative to infrastructure improvement projects within a district. Reviews and modifies, as required, plans and specifications to adapt to actual field conditions. Authorizes the use of construction/maintenance materials, equipment and procedures necessary for the completion of various projects
Performs complex administrative and engineering duties to analyze the operation of a district and direct future actions. Directs and supervises district staff in the completion of required records that consist of, but limited to, MATS, Lawson, and GHRS.
Exercises, and communicates to others, engineering judgment that could affect the safety of the public and workers, thereby decreasing the potential liability to the Department.
Communicates with the general public, abutters, contractors, and the news media to maintain good public relations, and to accomplish Bureau goals and objectives. Represents the department at public meetings and offers technical expertise while providing cooperation and coordination between state departments, engineering firms, and the public.
Trains, evaluates, and supervises a staff of professionals in order to delegate assignments to further the department's objectives.
Provides maintenance expertise during the project development process and performs reviews of plans and contract proposals. Consults with department and outside specialists in related fields to formulate plans and methods for the most efficient methods of highway construction and maintenance.
Serves as a temporary District Highway Maintenance Engineer in event of prolonged illness or absence.
Responds to emergency situations, at any hour of the day, to protect the highway system and to provide for public safety and convenience
