The State of New Hampshire, Department of Transportation, Bureau of Construction, has a full‑time vacancy for a Civil Engineer I – III position.

CIVIL ENGINEER I
To perform basic engineering duties and support permitting functions and operations activities of the highway maintenance district. Promote good public relations and support Department goals.

CIVIL ENGINEER II
To perform engineering duties for a variety of projects, including permitting functions and operations activities in a highway maintenance district. Promote good public relations and support Department goals.

CIVIL ENGINEER III
To perform a variety of engineering duties associated with the development and administration of programs in a highway maintenance district. Perform difficult permitting functions and operations activities of the highway maintenance district. Promote good public relations and support Department goals.

• Civil Engineer I – Minimum:
  Bachelor's degree in engineering. No experience required OR Associate’s degree in engineering or civil technology with two (2) years of relevant experience.
• Civil Engineer II – Minimum:
  Master’s degree in engineering. No experience required OR Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 18 months of relevant experience OR Associate’s degree in engineering or civil technology with 18 months of experience and two (2) additional years of comparable experience.
• Civil Engineer III – Minimum:
  Master’s degree in engineering with two (2) years of post‑baccalaureate experience OR Bachelor’s degree in engineering with four (4) years of experience OR Associate’s degree in engineering or civil technology with four (4) years of experience and two (2) additional years of comparable experience.

• Valid driver’s license and access to statewide travel.
• Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet Department of Transportation minimum standards.

• Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (NCEES) – Eligibility and evidence of passing required for in‑band advancement.
• Broad Group Level Advancement – Eligibility from 17‑2050 Civil Engineers Level 1 to Level 2 and from Level 2 to Level 3.

Civil Engineer I

• Reviews applications for utility, excavation, and access permits within state right‑of‑way.
• Inspects projects for compliance.
• Assists in preparing the annual district resurfacing program.
• Reviews procurement of consumable goods, materials, and equipment.
• Responds to emergency situations to protect the transportation system.
• Reviews new sections and provides field support for the Sponsor‑A‑Highway Program.
• Collects data, prepares reports, and reviews plans and proposals.
• Investigates and recommends responses to complaints and inquiries.
• All accountabilities performed in accordance with State and Department rules and policies.

Civil Engineer II

• Reviews applications for utility, excavation, and access permits.
• Inspects projects for compliance.
• Prepares annual resurfacing program.
• Supervises management of consumable goods, materials, and equipment.
• Responds to emergency situations.
• Reviews new sections, maintains records, and provides field support.
• Collects data, prepares reports, and reviews plans and proposals.
• Communicates with and responds to public and governmental inquiries.
• All accountabilities performed per State and Department rules and policies.

Civil Engineer III

• Reviews applications and issues permits for utilities, excavations, and accesses.
• Prepares annual resurfacing program.
• Directs, trains, and supervises subordinate staff in administration of consumable goods, materials, and equipment.
