Typical Starting Salary: $25.40 - $34.14/hr
SUMMARYCarries out policies and procedures for the operation of the NH Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (NH ELAP). Performs assessments of environmental laboratories, to include writing reports and following up with laboratory corrective actions. Monitors laboratory performance tests and maintains laboratory accreditations using a database. Serves as a resource for laboratories on maintaining accreditation and understanding various compliance requirements. This position requires frequent travel both in-state and out-of-state typically involving trips of three to four nights in duration.

Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation/
Experience:
Equivalent combination of 5.5 years of education and experience after completion of high school. Education and experience must be in environmental, biological, chemical or physical science.
License/Certification: Valid driver’s license
Other Requirements:
- Must be willing and able to travel out of state for approximately 40% of the time
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including day and overnight travel (in-state and out-of-state) along with some long workdays that involve overtime
Experience in a state, federal or ISO 17025 accredited or certified environmental, biological, chemical or physical science laboratory involving technical environmental sample preparation & analysis (organics, metals, in organics, radiochemistry or toxicity testing); experience with laboratory quality assurance/quality control practices; experience using software such as Word, Excel and Oracle
Self‑motivation with good communication (oral & written) and database skills
Knowledge of Safe Drinking Water Act, Clean Water Act and/or SW‑846 analytical methods

- Reviews laboratory accreditation documentation, records and practices to determine their compliance with accepted standards.
- Conducts compliance on‑site assessments of NH ELAP accredited laboratories. Issues reports for laboratory staff use.
- Performs quality control review of laboratory Proficiency Test (PT) sample results. Uploads PT results into the NH ELAP database.
- Updates and issues laboratory accreditation documents as directed.
- Maintains the laboratory accreditation database and related paper and electronic record keeping system.
- Researches and develops policies and procedures for the Program ensuring compliance with all state and federal laws and relevant standards.
- Provides technical assistance to laboratory staff and samplers to help them maintain accreditation and to ensure compliance sampling. Issues instructions for laboratory staff use.
- Supervises other program staff performing related work.
- Continually seeks to improve practices to add quality and value in support of the Department’s mission while identifying and eliminating unnecessary or redundant actions.
