The lactation consultant is to provide comprehensive lactation services to meet the needs of professional providers, antepartum, post‑partum lactating women and their families within Elliot Hospital and within the community.

• Collaborates with Women and Children’s health team and families to establish and maintain a team approach to promote successful lactation, consults and reports the needs of lactating families to the healthcare providers, utilizes strategies to support breastfeeding by performing daily lactation rounds on Maternity, NICU, Pediatrics and to other departments within the Elliot Hospital system and assesses, plans, implements and documents an individualized lactation plan to promote consistent patient care
• Demonstrates expertise in care of mother/infant complex breastfeeding problems and at risk infants, performs follow‑up calls with families with breastfeeding problems or at risk, provides telephone support on “Lactation Warm Line” regarding breastfeeding issues, as well as provides outpatients or referral appointments, which includes assessing, planning, implementation, documenting and reevaluates the individualize plan
• Establishes and maintains protocols, guidelines related to the standards of care for assisting breastfeeding mothers in all areas of the institute; evaluates, maintains, and assist with the use of appropriate breastfeeding aids and equipment; assist in providing ongoing in‑service/education for nursing and medical staff, to enhance the professional development and facilitates successful lactation management; provides a reference and current research data pertaining to breastfeeding for families and healthcare providers as well as provides consultation for the Moms Group and other Elliot services and programs as requested

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (BSN preferred)
• Current New Hampshire, compact, or multistate licensure as Registered Nurse required
• Certified through the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners required
• At least three (3) years of clinical experience in an acute healthcare institution
• Ability to obtain BLS qualification during orientation period and maintain during employment
