Registered Nurse I: Under the direct supervision of the Unit Nursing Coordinator, the RN I uses the Nursing Process to manage patients’ presenting behavior and assist in meeting immediate and long‑term needs for help. Reacts to patient care situations and uses knowledge to guide solutions, practicing within standards of the department, hospital, and regulatory agencies.
Registered Nurse II: Similar to RN I but with additional experience and judgment in problem‑solving.
Registered Nurse III: Anticipates patient care situations, using expertise to proactively plan solutions, practicing within all applicable standards.
Registered Nurse I:
Education:
Graduation from a recognized nursing program with affiliate or postgraduate courses and clinical experience in medical, surgical, obstetric, pediatric, and psychiatric nursing.
Experience:
Only that required for registration.
License/Certification:
Current RN license in New Hampshire.
Special Requirements:
May be required to work additional hours to meet patient care needs and safe staffing levels set by Nursing Department.
Registered Nurse II:
Education:
Same as RN I.
Experience:
One year as a registered nurse in a setting equivalent to the position.
License/Certification:
Current RN license in New Hampshire.
Special Requirements:
Same as RN I.
Registered Nurse III:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in nursing, human services, psychology, or related field; OR Associate’s degree with two years’ experience in residential/nursing home/long‑term care.
Experience:
One year in a similar setting for BA, two years for Associate.
License/Certification:
Current RN license in New Hampshire; CPR certification; professional specialty certification (psychiatric, gerontological, maternal/child, oncology, wound care, etc.).
Special Requirements:
Must hold specialty certification consistent with the job accountabilities.
Each additional year of approved formal education may substitute for one year of required work experience and vice versa.
ResponsibilitiesRegistered Nurse I
- Functions as Nurse‑in‑Charge in the absence of the Nurse Specialist.
- Assigns shift nursing care based on patient acuity.
- Provides direct nursing care via the Nursing Process.
- Collects patient data by interview/observation.
- Completes assessments and diagnoses on admission and as needed.
- Completes assessments prior to authorizing Seclusion/Restraint in emergencies.
- Performs venipuncture for lab testing.
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary team for individualized treatment plans.
- Defines patient problems, identifies goals, and determines interventions.
- Evaluates care plan effectiveness and documents response.
- Coordinates and supervises subordinates.
- Administers medication and treatment per standards.
- Educates patients/families on routines, medications, and health care needs.
- Planned discharge collaboration and documentation.
- Works with Nursing Managers to effect positive therapeutic milieu.
- Monitors medical problems and reports to Internal Medicine Department.
- Participates in workflow improvement activities.
- Supervises mental health workers in ADLs and milieu management.
- Engages in own skill development through coursework, seminars, and training.
Registered Nurse II
- Same responsibilities as RN I.
- Defines goals and plans nursing interventions.
- Monitors and evaluates care plan effectiveness.
- Supervises nursing care of RN subordinates and assists with orientation.
- Identifies improvement areas and participates in workflow enhancement.
Registered Nurse III
