Position: RN Resource Nurse- Pre-Surgical Testing- Full Time

Who We Are

Pre-Surgical Testing (PST), part of our Surgical Services team, is a group of nurses that care for patients of all ages scheduled for surgical, invasive, and non-invasive procedures requiring anesthesia. Electronic Medical Records are used to retrieve documents and results prior to surgery as well as perform telephone interviews with patients.

About The Job

The Resource Nurse directly oversees and serves as an immediate, first line clinical resource to staff on a designated unit and shift. The Resource Nurse demonstrates well developed clinical competencies appropriate to specialty area when providing direct patient care or guiding other staff. Functions as an integral member of the unit’s management team and works to ensure smooth real time operations of unit on assigned shift and adheres to values under the EHS Professional Practice Model which guide all dimensions of practice.

    Collaborate with and serve as a resource to medical staff for relevant clinical and other issues.
  • Communication & escalation:
    Consult with and/or communicate questions and concerns to the Clinical Nurse Manager and/or Administrative Supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Direct patient care support:
    Assist staff with the provision of care to assigned patients; assumes a partial patient assignment.
  • Operations & accountability:
    Provide oversight and ensure smooth shift-based operations including patient flow, interdisciplinary collaboration, patient satisfaction, issue resolution and occurrence reporting.
  • Resource management:
    Collaborate with the Clinical Nurse Manager to control costs through innovative and economical utilization of personnel, materials and equipment; mentor staff as stewards of resources.
  • Respect & Role Modeling:
    Apply critical thinking to guide staff in addressing clinical concerns and promote optimal patient outcomes; serve as a role model, coach, and mentor for staff, and facilitate performance reviews.
  • New graduate support:
    Serve as the designated shift resource for assigned new graduate nurses during their first year of employment beyond their precepted orientation period.
  • Ethics & Integrity:
    In the absence of the Clinical Nurse Manager, collaborate with Administrative Supervisor to address staffing and scheduling, disciplinary actions, and other immediate issues; support the department’s Shared Governance and quality improvement outcomes; perform other duties as assigned.

Who You Are

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
  • BSN required; OR must be actively enrolled in a BSN program. Termination of a program without degree completion will remove eligibility for the role.
  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Hampshire required.
  • Life support authorization (BLS, ACLS, etc.) appropriate to patient population required.
  • Specialty certification within six (6) months of eligibility preferred.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of current experience, preferably in an acute care setting, required.
  • Must be at a clinical level that reflects proficiency and in-depth knowledge of nursing practice.
  • Ability to advance basic computer skills as the health system adds new systems or performs upgrades to existing systems.
