Summary

Under the direction of the Patient Care Unit Director, the Nurse Manager provides 24‑7 operational leadership and management of the patient care unit. He/she is responsible for team and individual development, utilization of human, technical and material resources, and quality improvement activities at the unit and organization level. The Nurse Manager assists the director in fiscal responsibilities and supports quality patient care and professional nursing practice.

Education

Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited college. Master’s degree in nursing preferred or commensurate education and experience.

Certification, Registration & Licensure

Licensure required:
Licensed to practice in nursing in the state of New Hampshire. Certification required:
Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification, or equivalent credentialed by the American Heart Association. Department‑specific specialty certification strongly preferred.

Experience

Minimum of 3 years of acute‑care clinical experience in the department‑specific nursing area. Desired: previous supervisory/leadership experience.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee clinical nursing care, ensuring compliance with established standards of care and practice.
  • Manage patient care and transitions across the continuum.
  • Recruit, retain, nurture, evaluate and develop staff.
  • Manage departmental core processes.
  • Plan, administer, and account for human, material, and educational resources as well as systems and processes to effectuate care and services.
  • Monitor, evaluate and improve quality of care and services provided.
  • Cultivate respectful and responsive relationships and provide services delivered in a professional, compassionate manner.
  • Act as a conduit for department and organizational communication.
  • Lead department and interdepartmental teams.
  • Participate in and support departmental and organizational change.
  • Ensure compliance with state, local, and federal regulatory requirements.
  • Takes responsibility for individual performance goals.
  • Meet all departmental, professional and technical requirements.
Units

Medical Specialties Unit (5 South): 20‑bed inpatient unit providing care for a diverse population of adult medical and surgical patients. Fast‑paced environment offering opportunities to develop broad clinical expertise while caring for complex medical conditions and post‑surgical needs.

Medical Oncology Unit (5 East): 20‑bed private inpatient unit specializing in care of patients diagnosed with cancer. Nurses provide compassionate, specialized care, including chemotherapy administration, symptom management, patient education, and support throughout the cancer journey.

and Work Requirements

Essential functions involve regular lifting, carrying or pushing/pulling of up to 10 pounds, frequent lifting or pushing/pulling of 10–25 pounds, and occasional lifting or pushing/pulling of 20–50 pounds. The role requires hearing, fine‑motor skills, speaking, walking, bending, reaching, sitting, squatting, standing, occasional climbing, repetitive motion, kneeling, and smelling. Specific vision abilities required include color vision, depth perception, far vision, near vision, and peripheral vision.

Employees are frequently exposed to airborne pathogens, blood borne pathogens, and bodily fluids; and occasionally to airborne contaminants, chemotherapeutic agents, electrical hazards, moving mechanical parts, non‑weather related heat or cold, slippery surfaces, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level is usually moderate.
