Position: Security Officer (3rd shift)

Major Responsibilities & Duties

  • Provide safe and effective services while adhering to safety policies and boundaries with service recipients.
  • Attend safety and abuse risk management training as assigned.
  • Follow procedures for managing high‑risk activities and supervising service recipients.
  • Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations, and follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
  • Conduct regular interior and exterior patrols of Boys Town properties/buildings, including designated clinics, using a walking or vehicle method.
  • Check designated areas for security violations, secure doors and windows, and monitor for intruders or unusual conditions.
  • Observe and report maintenance needs and investigate incidents involving personal injury, property damage, theft, or vandalism, completing required reports.
  • Communicate with the Police Department to report unsafe conditions and investigate security and fire alarms.
  • Assist staff and guests with sheltering during severe weather warnings and execute evacuation plans when fire alarms are triggered.
  • Render routine security assistance to personnel, escorting employees, patients, and visitors as needed.
  • Respond to emergency calls, including Code 10s, using the nationally recognized personal restraint training model and take appropriate actions.
  • Confront unauthorized personnel and complete security reports documenting shift activities.
  • Announce emergency drills and real events clearly and accurately following established policies and procedures.
  • Use Boys Town vehicles to fulfill position requirements and maintain building access by greeting visitors and completing check‑in procedures.
  • Perform receptionist duties until building closure, answering and directing incoming telephone calls and giving directions to visitors and guests.
  • Act as the point‑of‑contact for building maintenance and housekeeping issues, ensuring a professional appearance of the lobby and reception area.
  • Assist in keeping property entrances free of trash and enforce the Tobacco Free Campus policy.
  • Schedule and complete quarterly safety drills.
  • Perform general administrative and clerical duties, including answering phones, distributing mail, typing correspondence, and data entry.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • High level of professionalism and interpersonal skills.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to promote excellent public relations with patients, visitors, and employees while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Quick assessment of situations and appropriate response.
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills.
  • Accurate and thorough report writing and communication of events/incidents.
  • Independent work, meeting deadlines, and multitasking while maintaining quality.
  • Physical stamina to stand and/or walk for long periods.
  • Ability to detect, respond to, and report unsafe conditions.
  • Capability to perform physical restraints, such as Code 10s, or situations where staff or public safety is threatened, following Safe Crisis Management Training.
  • Operate a battery jump pack to assist in starting vehicles.
  • Handle time‑sensitive mail items, including lifesaving medications.
  • Perform defensive tactics to escort non‑Boys Town personnel off premises.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and ability to pass an annual MVR check.
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
  • Complete and maintain BLS (CPR) certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Work at multiple Boys Town property locations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of six months of administrative work experience.
  • Minimum of one year experience in Security, Military, or Law Enforcement.
Physical Requirements , Equipment Usage, Work Environment
  • Moderate to heavy physical activity: frequent standing, walking, climbing, and reaching overhead.
  • Occasional lifting up to 100 lbs (0‑33% of shift), often up to 50 lbs (34‑66% of shift), and constantly up to 20 lbs (67‑100% of shift).
  • Occasional keyboard and workstation use.
  • Physical interventions may require squatting, kneeling, or resisting restraints for up to 3 minutes.
  • Work both indoors and outdoors, possibly in temperatures below 32°F for over one hour.
  • Environmental hazards include proximity to moving mechanical parts, high places, exposure to heat or chemicals, noise, fumes, and dust.
