Security Officer, Site Security
Provides overall security and safety of members of the School community and school property against fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry.
Responsibilities- Continuously patrol on foot or in vehicle all buildings and grounds; may maintain a fixed post.
- Enforce all School rules, regulations, and guidelines.
- Inspect doors, windows, and gates to ensure they are secure; lock/unlock buildings and offices for authorized persons per instructions.
- Monitor grounds and buildings for unauthorized or suspicious persons, preventing unauthorized access to premises and Physical Plant.
- Warn violators of rule infractions (e.g., loitering, smoking, carrying forbidden articles); apprehend or expel persons engaging in suspicious or criminal acts; report violations to Dean of Students, Administration, and Concord Police Department as appropriate.
- Respond to all radio calls as necessary – fire alarms, intruder alerts, ill or missing person, lockout, animal or heat problems, etc.
- Watch for and report violations such as fire hazards, leaking pipes, safety and traffic, and general security.
- Maintain alertness for sight or odor of smoke or chemicals, and for sounds alien to the environment.
- Assist with traffic control, parking, and crowd control when necessary.
- Assist Health Center in transporting patients and/or materials when needed.
- Sound alarm or call police or fire department by telephone in case of fire or presence of unauthorized persons.
- Conduct or assist in evacuation drills as required and requested by a Head of House or Department Head.
- Maintain daily log and record details such as property damage, student violations, unusual occurrences, and equipment malfunction.
- Set thermostatic controls to maintain specified temperature in buildings; may restart boilers in Heating Plant or residences.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED and two years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid NH Driver’s License with excellent driving record.
- Current and valid certification in First Aid and CPR.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Excellent verbal communication skills with members of the School community and visitors.
- Mathematical proficiency: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, ratio, percent, bar graph interpretation.
- Reasoning: apply common sense, carry out instructions, handle problems involving many variables in stressful situations, interact effectively with a variety of people.
- Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing knowledge sufficient to evaluate problems and determine if a Maintenance Supervisor should be called.
- Ability to respond to alarm systems, distress calls, sirens, and reports of “strange odors.”
- Must maintain strict confidentiality.
- Must be able to use locks and keys; handling of alarms and emergency equipment.
- Regularly required to walk, talk or hear, and taste or smell.
- Frequently required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms.
- Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Patrolling buildings and grounds requires frequent climbing and descending of indoor and outdoor steps.
- Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Regularly required to work in outdoor weather conditions.
- Occasionally required to work near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places.
- Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and to toxic or caustic chemicals.
- Occasionally exposed to the risk of electrical shock.
- Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Safety positions are full‑year positions with a normal work week of 40 hours. The normal shifts are currently 8:00 AM–4:00 PM, 4:00 PM–12:00 AM, or 12:00 AM–8:00 AM. Work schedule will be based on the needs of the School, and may change. Additional work hours may be required at various times including nights, weekends and special events.
Must wear School‑provided uniform at all times when on duty and keep it neat and freshly launtered.
