The Mobile Diesel Technician II will be responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and advanced repairs, advanced mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned.
Key Responsibilities- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections and follow‑up repairs on light, medium and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile field environment.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling, starters, alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling, starters, alternators, air conditioning, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering, engines, transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using handheld computers and pressure gauges.
- Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
- Identify problems and evaluate alternatives using sound judgment.
- Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on company‑issued service truck, performing periodic reconciliations.
- Maintain and operate company‑issued service vehicle, conducting safety checks and pre/post‑trip inspections.
- Work with and listen effectively to clients and customers to assess needs, provide information or assistance, and resolve problems.
- Manage concurrent tasks, prioritizing work activities and time allocations.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
- Document work according to company standards, upload pictures of work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders (RO) using an iOS device and the TRAIT application.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and all other documentation in a timely fashion.
- Work independently and manage a daily schedule.
- Maintain a high level of productivity and meet or exceed standard repair times.
- Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary.
- Communicate with management and support team via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve purchase order numbers, or discuss RO findings.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies, OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
- Maintain the service truck, conduct safety checks and daily inspections.
- High School Diploma/GED and 3 years of experience in a related field; alternative combinations such as a higher degree or 5 years of experience may be considered.
- At least 3 years of experience with refrigerated equipment.
- Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary for job duties.
- OEM training and certifications preferred.
- Complete all company‑required training.
- Pass DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical or provide a DOT medical card with more than 4 months validity.
- Must be at least 21 years old and have a valid driver’s license.
- Safe drivers required; must hold a valid state driver's license and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
