The State of New Hampshire, Department of Safety, Division of Motor Vehicles, Bureau of Driver Licensing, has a full-time vacancy for a Driver and Commercial Licensing Examiner (Licensing Examiner II), SOC Title 13-1040 COMPLIANCE OFFICERS-2, located in Concord NH but with some travel statewide. This position has a 40 hour work week and is considered non-exempt.
SummaryAdminister a variety of tests and driving skill examinations to applicant to ensure that only qualified individuals are issued commercial vehicle driver licenses, and school bus driver licenses. Reviews applicant information for consistency with applicable motor vehicle laws, administrative rules and Federal Motor Carrier regulations, to ensure that applicants are eligible to apply for and receive a New Hampshire commercial motor vehicle driver license or other official document.
YOUREXPERIENCE COUNTS
Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education / ExperienceAssociate's degree and 1 year of experience OR equivalent combination of 3 years of education and experience after completion of high school. Education and experience must be in auto mechanics, instruction, training, customer service, driving work or related field.
License / CertificationValid driver's license.
Other Requirements- Must be at least 21 years of age at time of appointment.
- Driving record must be free of motor vehicle violations that are determined by the Director of Motor Vehicles to be disqualifying.
- Selected candidate will undergo a fingerprint based criminal background check and motor vehicle record check in order to ensure suitability for exposure to confidential information.
- Must be willing to attend additional training sessions to expand and maintain knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Regulations and Driver's License regulations.
- Must be able to travel throughout the state and work at various satellite offices and testing locations, as well as work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
- Must be able and willing to wear seatbelt during all driving skills examinations.
- May be required to work a flexible schedule including, but not limited to, early morning, evening, and/or weekend hours.
Candidates with an equivalent combination of 2+ years of relevant education and experience after completion of high school may be considered and hired in ‘trainee status’ for this position.
AFTER-HIRE REQUIREMENTS- Must be able to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL-A) within 6 months of hire.
- Must attend the Safe Driving Program within 60 days and remain current on training throughout employment.
- Must successfully complete the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) Driver Licensing Examiner Certification Program and the AAMVA Commercial Driver Examiner Certification within twelve (12) months of hire, or as scheduled.
- Selected candidate(s) will be required to attend and successfully complete all aspects of an intensive multi-week training program of classroom and on the job training within the first six (6) months of employment.

The work of an employee in trainee status in this position shall be overseen by a fully qualified individual. An employee in trainee status shall meet the minimum qualifications within the period of time specified on the SJD, not to exceed one year of being hired into this position.
ResponsibilitiesProvides first rate customer service by administering driving skills examinations, through applicant on and off-road performance tests in commercial vehicles, tractor trailers, and school buses, to ensure adequate driving ability prior to issuing a commercial motor vehicle driver license.
Qualifies or disqualifies applicants for a commercial motor vehicle driver license based on results of driving skills examinations. Records pertinent information about the examinations and prepares and submits reports of commercial motor vehicle licensing activities, in the appropriate format.
