The Floating Part-Time Library Assistant provides flexible support across library locations (North, South, and NCRC ) starting in the Fall ’26 semester. This position ensures continuity of essential library services during staff absences and peak usage periods. The assistant delivers frontline customer service, circulation support, basic reference assistance, space supervision, and clerical duties to maintain a welcoming, functional, and student-centered library environment.
While hours and location may vary based on coverage needs, work is scheduled in advance and is limited to Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
This position is classified as part‑time
, and will work an average of 12-15 hours; however weekly hours may vary throughout the year based on operational needs and department demand. Part‑time roles in this department are hired for in‑person support
, and therefore are not eligible to work remotely, including, but not limited to during department closures, college closures, or virtual learning days.
- High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.), and six (6) months of clerical, customer service, or office experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

- Performs a wide range of library circulation activities, which includes: assisting and training patrons, student workers, faculty, and staff in finding print and electronic resources; ascertaining and responding to patron’s needs.
- Searching for and pulling materials from shelves for patrons; processing incoming and outgoing library materials.
- Obtaining payments for fines; creating and updating patron records; placing materials on hold.
- Preparing and disseminating notifications of overdue items; communicating library policies and procedures; and/or performing related activities.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
