Overview
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest, most complex agencies in the state, employing approximately 17,000 people. It is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well‑being of all North Carolinians and for providing human service needs for special populations, including individuals who are deaf, blind, developmentally disabled, and mentally ill. The Administrative Specialist I position supports the Early Intervention Section of the Child and Family Well‑Being Division and is located in the WNC CDSA in Asheville, NC.
Responsibilities- Answer telephone calls, greet visitors, and process incoming and outgoing mail.
- Coordinate referrals and other activities in accordance with Infant‑Toddler Program requirements.
- Support the medical records assistant with routine medical records duties.
- Enter and manage data in relevant databases.
- Assist the Director and Assistant Director with projects as needed.
- Provide quality‑assurance support to the QA Coordinator.
- Manage daily office functions to promote efficiency and consistency.
- Communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide backup for other support staff.
- Knowledge of office protocols and procedures, with the ability to ensure compliance and consistency.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, organize workflow, and coordinate activities to support efficient office operations and meet deadlines.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Problem‑solving skills and the ability to apply policy and procedure.
- Relationship management and data analysis ability.
- Experience in independent office support, medical records, databases, spreadsheets, and task prioritization.
- High school diploma or GED and two years of related administrative experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Exert up to 20 pounds occasionally or up to 10 pounds frequently, or a negligible amount constantly. Light work rating.
Compensation and BenefitsSalary range: $39,244. Eligibility for a hybrid‑teleworking schedule with required weekly onsite work.
