Job Overview

Cabarrus County Parks and Active Living is hiring Seasonal Camp Counselors to run day‑camp programming for youth ages 6‑14 during the summer, and to provide Spring Break programming as well.

Position pays $15.44 per hour. Work is part of a seasonal schedule:
June 1 – July 31, Monday‑Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.;
Spring Break camp covers the week of March 9–13.

• Plan, lead, and demonstrate all special programs and activities of the summer day‑camp program.
• Supervise campers, ensuring a safe, structured, and engaging environment.
• Prepare and maintain records and files related to camp operations.
• Lead age‑appropriate interactive projects, sports, crafts, and weekly trips.
• Model and teach socialization skills, following the summer‑camp curriculum.
• Assist parents with general inquiries and provide updates on campers.
• Transport and accompany participants on educational and recreational trips.
• Evaluate camp programs and suggest improvements.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety of work areas and secure collected funds.
• Perform other related tasks as required by the Senior Counselor.

• High school diploma or equivalent (combination of education and experience may be considered).
• Minimum knowledge of summer‑camp rules, regulations, and child‑development principles.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to give clear directions and work independently.
• Strong interpersonal skills, capable of establishing discipline, structure, and safety in group settings.
• Experience or strong interest in working with children ages 6‑15 (preferred but not required).
• CPR and First Aid certification (preferred).
• Valid North Carolina driver’s license, Class B commercial license with passenger and school‑bus endorsements (not required but a plus).
• Ability to work flexible weekend and evening hours.

• Seasonal, part‑time, or full‑time depending on camp schedule.
• Mandatory completion of all training requirements before the camp season begins.
• Driver’s license and vehicle requirements may apply for transportation duties.
