The purpose of this position is to instruct summer playground campers in arts and crafts programs.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Performs daily operational duties by communicating schedules with staff, documenting infractions of campers, inventorying supplies, and communicating safety hazards to supervisor.
- Maintains safety of campers by adhering to safety policies and procedures, assisting in supervising campers, reporting safety hazards, and completing accident/injury reports as needed.
- Provides programs by planning age‑appropriate arts and crafts activities for campers, requesting needed supplies, and working with staff to complete activities.
Performs other similar duties as required.
Job Specifications And Qualifications- Knowledge of arts and crafts principles and practices; basic safety and medical principles.
- Developmentally appropriate activities for children; applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations.
- Skills in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating activities.
- Working with children.
- Communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc., sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification;
First Aid Certification. - Valid North Carolina Driver’s License.
Applicants must meet the City criteria for an acceptable driving record.
Working Conditions /Physical Requirements
- Positions in this class typically require balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
- Medium Work:
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. - Incumbents may be subjected to inside and outside environmental conditions.
The ability to read and understand written instructions, to understand simple processes and the routine operation of machines; or the City may consider an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
