Position: 25-26 Substitute Teacher

Overview

Brentwood School District is a public education system located in St. Louis County, including the City of Brentwood and portions of surrounding areas. The district covers just over two square miles and serves suburban neighborhoods, major retail areas, and community resources. Brentwood offers small community charm with big city resources and attractions.

As the “Home of the Eagles,” the district provides programs, resources, and opportunities to adapt to the evolving needs of students and families. The district’s five schools enroll more than 800 students who compete nationally in academics, athletics, and extracurricular activities.

Description / Job-Position Summary

Perform the instructional and classroom management processes for teachers who are absent for a day or longer periods of time, in order to ensure students’ continuous learning, safety and well-being, and academic achievement.

Building Principal / Executive Director of Human Resources

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

  • Must have a minimum of 60 college credit hours or complete the 20-hour training offered by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE)
  • Working on or conferred Bachelor's Degree in education is preferred
  • Experience working with youth is preferred

Certificates / Licenses

  • Missouri teaching certificate in any subject area or Missouri Substitute Certificate is required

Self Determined Schedule based on vacancies

Salary: $120/day for teacher aide vacancies; $130/day for certified vacancies (with substitute certification); $140/day for certified vacancies (with teaching certification)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Instructional Responsibilities

  • Provides classroom instruction to students as outlined in lesson plans
  • Creates a safe and orderly environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of all students
  • Maintains established routines and classroom procedures
  • Maintains reasonable rules of conduct that encourage self-discipline and responsibility
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in designated locations and times and maintains appropriate record keeping of student performance

Professional Responsibilities

  • Remains at school the entire school day unless otherwise instructed to leave by the building principal
  • Demonstrates professional responsibility and maintains a professional appearance
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding staff/student information
  • Supervises students in all areas of the school grounds and off-site when involved in school activities
  • Takes necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Reports incidents (e.g., fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse) for student safety and adherence to policies
  • Responds to emergency situations to resolve safety concerns and direct to appropriate personnel
  • Communicates effectively and professionally with parents, staff, students, and community members
  • Performs other duties as assigned by building or district administration
