Role OverviewSocial workers at KIPP North Carolina provide crucial support and services to students. In this role, you work directly with students, teachers, community partners, and families to provide individual and group counseling, link families to long‑term solutions, and connect with external support organizations. You report to the school principal and receive coaching from the Director of School Social Work on the Regional Support Team.
Responsibilities- Facilitate individual sessions using evidence‑based, student‑centered interventions.
- Facilitate group sessions using evidence‑based, student‑centered interventions to influence social‑emotional skills.
- Facilitate classroom lessons modeling evidence‑based, student‑centered interventions.
- Build peer connections using restorative practices during circles, peer conflict resolution, and lunch bunch.
- Participate in continuous training to develop an evidence‑based toolbox.
- Respond to acute mental health crises and provide appropriate interventions.
- Develop and manage 504 plans, monitor progress, and consult teachers on behavior plans.
- Conduct student and classroom observations to monitor progress.
- Provide ongoing consultation to teachers, parents, and staff.
- Conduct risk assessments for safety concerns.
- Act as a team member supporting Tier 1, 2 and 3 MTSS programming.
- Facilitate professional development for staff on the social worker role.
- Initiate and lead monthly initiatives at the school and raise awareness.
- Serve as 504 case manager for students with a 504 plan.
- Ensure 504 plans are complete, compliant, and updated annually.
- Share 504 plans and accommodations with teachers and school leadership.
- Ensure students with 504 plans receive accommodations on all formal tests.
- Prepare and lead annual 504 review meetings and reevaluation meetings.
- Manage the 504 initial referral and eligibility process.
- Manage the 504 manifestation determination process.
- Collect data to track plan fidelity and monitor progress.
- Manage the McKinney‑Vento Program.
- Consult and collaborate with school leaders, teachers, and student support team members.
- Conduct classroom observations to model support for students with unique behaviors and mental health disabilities.
- Support stakeholders in integrating child development, academics, and social‑emotional functioning.
- Demonstrate a positive, collaborative, problem‑solving mindset with all stakeholders.
- Work with community‑based organizations for referrals.
- Collaborate with the school team to reduce chronic absenteeism and truancy.
- Participate in attendance meetings and support families identified as truant.
- Conduct home visits to support families.
- Serve as the school liaison to social service agencies.
- Act as School‑Based Homeless Liaison.
- Participate in mediations, reviews, discipline hearings, and due process proceedings.
- Participate in school events, parent‑teacher conferences, and other activities.
