Job Description
Summary:
Plan and facilitate lessons for incarcerated adults who either lack a high school credential, or otherwise qualify for WIOA Title II services, using the North Carolina Adult Education Content Standards. Focus on developing students’ critical thinking and test‑taking skills in addition to their reading, writing, math, science, and/or social studies knowledge. Support students’ ability to succeed in the workplace, postsecondary training, and community upon graduation and release.
Assist with coordination and/or conduction of new student enrollment and testing. Most contracts will require adjuncts to work face‑to‑face in prison or jail facilities. Background check and pre‑service facility‑specific safety training are required by the correctional sites prior to entry.
- Bachelor’s degree;
- Demonstrated experience teaching math, language arts, science, social studies, or workplace readiness skills;
- Demonstrated experience with Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Master’s degree in education, or closely related field;
- Minimum of one year’s teaching experience with diverse and/or at‑risk populations;
- Minimum of one year’s teaching experience with adults;
- Experience teaching math (from integers to algebra) to struggling students;
- Experience with research‑based reading instruction for struggling students;
- Experience with academic and/or career counseling/advising;
- Experience with Basic Skills / College and Career Readiness programs in the community college setting.
