Position SummaryThe Department of Sport and Recreation Management in the School of Sport Sciences seeks a broadly trained instructor with demonstrated excellence in innovative undergraduate teaching and mentoring. This position is a full‑time, non‑tenure‑track Instructor of Sport and Recreation Management beginning August
2026. The successful candidate will contribute to curricular design and assessment with other faculty members, teach undergraduate courses, advise and mentor undergraduate students, be team‑oriented with a service‑leadership and growth mindset mentality, and foster an inclusive and equitable classroom and work environment. The position will remain open until filled.
- Teach courses in one or more of the following areas: introduction to sport and recreation management, sport governance, facility planning and design, event management, finance, sales and sponsorship, legal aspects.
- Maintain a 5/5 teaching schedule (15 contact hours a semester).
- Engage in service to the profession and to the department.
- Use best practices in curriculum development and assessment, including student‑centered and evidence‑based teaching practices.
- Mentor and advise a diverse student population, including first‑generation, socio‑economic, non‑traditional students.
- Communicate consistently and clearly with department, colleagues, and students.
- Seek opportunities to enhance student learning outcomes and experiential learning.
- Maintain regular, predictable attendance on campus.
- Align activities with the university’s mission, vision, and strategic roadmap.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
- Commitment to serving diverse, first‑generation, non‑traditional, and socio‑economically challenged students.
- Ability to work individually and in groups to support student matriculation and persistence.
- Honest and transparent communication.
- Service‑leadership qualities and a growth mindset.
- Education in the field of sport management or a closely related area.
- M.S. in Sport Management or closely related field (Ph.D. preferred).
- Teaching experience preferred.
- Experience developing active learning strategies preferred.
