Job Title:

ERS Electronics Lead

Location:

Concord, NC
Company: GM Performance Power Units (GM PPU)
Drive the Future of Formula 1 with GM PPU!
We’re looking for an expert ERS (Energy Recovery System) Electronics Lead to guide our ERS team in Concord, NC. In this vital leadership position, you’ll direct the architecture, integration, and refinement of all electronic systems, emphasizing high-reliability power electronics, CU-K (inverter/DC-DC), power distribution, hardware engineering, cabling/harnesses, contractors, fuses, sensors, and seamless controls interfacing under the harshest race demands.
Direct a team of electrical engineers and work alongside multidisciplinary groups in controls software, mechanical integration, thermal design, and production to refine ERS electronics layout and output in the hybrid power unit in line with FIA standards. Guide validation testing, hardware prototyping, and ongoing enhancements to produce championship-caliber electronic systems that power victory.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define system specs, efficiency benchmarks, and project milestones for ERS electronics, covering CU-K inverters, DC-DC converters, power distribution, connectors, fuses, sensors, and cabling/harnesses.
  • Direct integrated teams—power electronics, controls firmware, hardware engineers, thermal, and manufacturing—to unify ERS electronics into the powertrain, targeting peak efficiency, mass reduction, thermal resilience, and track‑proven durability.
  • Supervise hardware prototyping, rig testing initiatives, and performance‑based refinements (EMC, thermal, high‑voltage cycling), steering technical groups toward validated, competition‑ready outcomes.
  • Conduct technical gate reviews, risk assessments (FMEA), records management, and adherence to FIA F1 rules for ERS power limits, safety protocols, and interface standards.
  • Promote breakthroughs by championing R&D in cutting‑edge semiconductors, compact packaging, high‑voltage connectors, and manufacturing scalability for elite electronics.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's in Electrical/Electronics Engineering (or related) with 8+ years in power electronics, motor sport hybrids, or high‑voltage ERS;
    Master's/PhD with 5+ years preferred.
  • Proficiency in PCB design tools (Altium preferred), simulation software (LTSpice/Simulink), and PLM (Teamcenter) for electronics layout and power/thermal modeling.
  • Demonstrated success in CU‑K/DC‑DC design, HV safety, EMI/EMC mitigation, harness engineering, and FIA F1 hybrid regulations.
Desirable Skills
  • Practical experience in motor sport hardware builds, dyno/track validation, and rapid prototyping.
  • Expertise in wide‑bandgap devices, advanced sensors, automated harness production, and data‑driven optimization techniques.
  • IPC standards, quality assurance frameworks, and proven team leadership in high‑pressure settings.
