Overview
Legrand has an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist to join the team in Concord, NC.
The successful candidate will drive, promote, and train to ensure a culture of continuous safety improvement and safe working conditions. The role collaborates with leaders to develop and implement safety strategies, policies, and procedures to improve overall safety performance. The specialist will work directly with management to develop and maintain training programs, coordinate awareness events, and provide leadership in safety policy implementation.
The role ensures safety and environmental compliance with all company, local, state, and federal regulations and assists in the continual improvement and maintenance of a comprehensive EHS program.
- Ensure Legrand's Concord facility is in compliance with all state, federal, DEP, and OSHA regulations regarding health and safety.
- Direct, lead, and motivate plant personnel to achieve safety goals and objectives in a timely and safe manner.
- Assist in investigating workplace accidents, determining root causes, implementing preventive measures, and managing corrective actions.
- Lead the Safety Committee team, provide guidance to committee leadership, oversee safety inspection processes, monthly meetings, and subcommittee activities. Ensure prompt follow‑up on all open safety task lists.
- Conduct or coordinate worker training in areas such as safety regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, new employee orientation, job instruction, and use of safety equipment across the organization. Maintain training records.
- Facilitate and lead training events, safety activities, process improvements, visual and communication initiatives.
- Report and review findings from facilities inspections and/or testing conducted.
- Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards and ensure safety regulation compliance.
- Manage safety metrics, reporting, analysis, follow‑up, and record keeping to meet compliance requirements.
- Guide management and employees to assess, plan, and control potential environmental risks and impacts.
- Ensure emergency response plans are functional and lead competency drills.
- Conduct activities related to environmental compliance, reporting, regulatory permitting, hazardous waste handling, and waste reduction/recycling programs.
- Oversee maintenance of all safety records, including the SDS database and GHS program implementation.
- Assist the business in meeting corporate sustainability and environmental goals.
- Ensure contractor personnel on the property comply with Legrand policies and safety requirements.
- Audit line management to ensure effective EHS implementation.
- Coordinate regulatory agency inspections and minimize corrections. Maintain logs and documentation for permits and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct risk assessments and training needs analyses.
- Support ISO
14001/ISO
45001 requirements and auditing. - Perform other related duties as required.
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety or related discipline or equivalent experience.
- Associate Safety Professional (ASP) Certification (preferred).
- Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience focused on safety, preferably in a lean manufacturing environment, ensuring compliance with local, federal, state, and OSHA regulations.
- Proficient knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and recognized standards related to environmental health and safety functions.
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills, attention to detail, investigative abilities, and the capacity to handle multiple priorities and implement solutions efficiently.
- Ability to work in cross‑functional teams with diverse backgrounds and skill sets.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to host and present safety topics to large groups.
- Strong problem‑solving and excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
