Job Summary

General Motors Performance Power Units (GMPPU) seeks a Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) to ensure all externally sourced components meet performance, reliability, and quality standards required for high‑performance propulsion systems. In this role you will own the full lifecycle supplier quality ownership, including supplier selection, APQP execution, PPAP validation, and ongoing supplier performance management. The position works closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Purchasing to ensure supplier processes are capable, controlled, and aligned to GM PPU requirements.

You’ll combine strong technical expertise with hands‑on problem solving and experience applying APQP, SPC, MSA, and CAPA methodologies within advanced manufacturing environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead supplier qualification and sourcing assessments, evaluating technical capability, manufacturing readiness, and quality systems.
  • Define and communicate GM PPU supplier quality requirements, including deliverables, timelines, and escalation paths.
  • Lead APQP activities (PFMEA review, Control Plans, Process Flows, validation strategy) for sourced components.
  • Review and approve PPAP submissions, ensuring alignment with design intent and CTQ requirements.
  • Verify FAI/FAIR submissions and dimensional validation using metrology and inspection data.
  • Establish and validate inspection criteria using SPC, MSA, and capability studies.
  • Drive resolution of supplier nonconformances using structured root cause analysis (8D, DMAIC, 5‑Why).
  • Own supplier NCR/CAPA processes, ensuring effective containment, corrective action, and prevention of recurrence.
  • Support component validation and testing, including analysis of critical propulsion systems and subcomponents.
  • Monitor supplier performance and drive continuous improvement in quality, delivery, and process capability.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Purchasing to ensure supplier alignment to program requirements.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or related Engineering field.
  • Experience in supplier quality, manufacturing quality, or process quality.
  • Strong knowledge of APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, SPC, and MSA.
  • Experience reviewing FAI/FAIR, GD&T, and dimensional inspection data.
  • Proven experience in root cause analysis and CAPA systems.
  • Ability to work cross‑functionally and drive supplier accountability.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in high‑performance automotive, motor sport, or aerospace environments.
  • Proficiency with statistical tools (e.g., Minitab, JMP).
  • Familiarity with quality systems (e.g., IFS, High QA, or equivalent).
  • Lean Six Sigma certification.
Working Environment
  • Regular interaction with external suppliers and internal manufacturing teams.
  • Hands‑on involvement in supplier assessments, validation activities, and issue resolution.
  • Occasional travel to supplier sites and partner facilities.
