With our people, we break through limitations and expectations – not once in a career, but every day. They help move our company, and the world, forward.

Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network.

The Project Manager, Fiber Capital Programs is responsible for leading large-scale capital projects that expand the capacity and capability of Corning Optical Communications manufacturing facilities globally. This role provides project leadership across all phases of equipment deployment, installation, commissioning, and startup, partnering with Technology Development and cross-functional teams to deliver manufacturing systems safely, effectively, and in alignment with business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with OFC leadership and cross-functional stakeholders to define project objectives and align on business needs.
  • Lead the use of the Capricorn process to define project scope, develop funding requests, and execute capital projects effectively.
  • Build and organize project teams using the appropriate mix of internal expertise and external support.
  • Manage stakeholder communication, including updates to project stakeholders, steering teams, and governance teams.
  • Own project deliverables, schedules, budgets, risk identification, and issue resolution, while traveling to project sites as needed during definition and execution phases.

Education and Experience:

  • Required:

BS or MS in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial or Chemical Engineering OR combination of a technical degree (design, electrical, mechanical, chemical, industrial)
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in leadership and/or management roles for capital manufacturing equipment projects or similar manufacturing engineering leadership experience
  • Experience with equipment, construction and manufacturing costs
  • Experience managing project budgets and developing project business cases
  • Experience guiding teams toward consensus and informed decision-making

Travel Requirements:

  • Typical travel can range from a few days to a few weeks during the project initiation phase.
  • During the deployment phase of the project, travel may be full-time.
  • Planning, Development and/or Deployment phases typically range from 3-9 months but can extend to 1+ years.
  • Travel will be required to Corning Optical Fiber and Cable Manufacturing sites in North Carolina (Concord, Winston-Salem, Hickory, Newton, and Wilmington) and overseas sites in India, China, and Europe.

Desired

Skills:

  • Experience in Optical Fiber manufacturing – including development, engineering, or operations
