Engineering Technician

Job Overview

Engineering Technician I (S) position supporting higher level technicians and engineers in functional areas such as construction inspection, surveying, materials sampling, testing and construction traffic control. Work may include entering specific project information into Hicams and Shareplus and performing a wide variety of standardized and non‑standardized tests and assignments in compiling, analyzing, computing, editing and processing field data.

• Perform construction inspection, surveying, materials sampling and testing duties.
• Enter project information into Hicams and Shareplus.
• Compile, analyze, compute, edit and process field data.
• Obtain and maintain the required certifications for material sampling and testing.
• Operate a motor vehicle and perform surveying tasks as assigned.
• Attend and pass certification classes (QMS Asphalt and Concrete Testing).
• Work nights, weekends, holidays and extended hours as necessary.
• Perform calculations and computations as required.
• Maintain full range of record keeping and daily reports.

• Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments.
• Customer service experience resolving problems involving complicated engineering concepts.
• Knowledge of computer equipment, iPad and related software.
• Experience maintaining standard daily records and reports.
• Knowledge of standards and specifications and plan‑reading experience.
• Close visual acuity to use testing instruments, read plan details and make accurate field measurements.

Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related curriculum from an accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Grade NC07. Salary range $37,377 – $65,408. The position offers full state benefits and competitive salaries.
