Job Description
This position performs technical work dispatching law enforcement, medical, fire, rescue and other equipment and personnel in response to emergency and non-emergency situations. The role requires working at a communications console for extended periods, analyzing communications, detailed accurate typing, and speaking distinctly. Applicants must deal courteously with the public and emergency responders under stressful conditions and work varying shifts, including weekends and holidays.
Qualifications- High school graduation or equivalent education and experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain DCI (Division of Criminal Investigations), Basic Telecommunicator, EMD (Emergency Medical Dispatch) and CPR certifications.
- Preferred experience in computerized dispatching or in law‑enforcement, EMS, or fire dispatching, and knowledge of the Halifax County area.
- Shift work with scheduled shifts.
- Typing speed of 45 words per minute.
The position requires the ability to type 45 wpm.
SalaryThe hourly rate for this position is $19.74 per hour. The part‑time position requires approximately 16–29 hours per week.
