It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community.

Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters!

Correctional Officer I
- Minimum Custody Offenders require limited supervision and may leave cells at certain times of the day.

Step Plan Range: $42,512 - $55,317

Salary Grade: NC05

Correctional Officer II
- Medium Custody Offenders require a moderate level of supervision.

Step Plan Range: $43,911 - $57,136

Salary Grade: NC06

Correctional Officer III
- Close Custody Offenders require constant supervision and have heavily controlled movement.

Step Plan Range: $46,961 - $61,108

Salary Grade: NC07PA

REQUIREMENTS To be considered for a Correctional Officer position, ALL applicants must meet Criminal Justice Standards Requirements ( 12 NCAC 09G .0302 ) .HIRING BONUS Hires may be eligible for a $3,000 Sign on Bonus.

If you were referred by a current Department of Adult Corrections employee, they may qualify for a $1,000 referral bonus. Enter their name in the referral section of your application.

WORK SCHEDULE
12-hour shifts, 28-day rotating A/B schedule.

Employees must be able to work any shift including rotating, fixed shift, or split shift. All shifts may include days, nights, weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime as required .Full-Time Officers benefits:

Transition to higher level officers as opportunities arise,Transition across the state within different institution locations

Take advantage of internal promotional opportunities and growth

Part-Time shift options also available (24 - 32 hours/week):

Four- six (6) hour days per week

Four- eight (8) hour days per week

Two twelve (12) hour days per week FACILITY LOCATIONS Please refer to the Facilities Map when selecting your preferred work location.

Trainee Progression Candidate Consideration If fully qualified applicants are unavailable, candidates may be considered for trainee appointments. Trainee salaries may begin below the posted range and increase as minimum qualifications are obtained in accordance with State policy.

Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT)
All new hires must complete six weeks of Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT). This may require overnight weekday stay at training facility. Room and board is provided, and transportation is available upon request.
