Description Of Work

This position is responsible for the development, coordination, and teaching of the Nursing Departmental orientation program and for performing unit-based orientation. It serves as the Nurse Educator/Preceptor for all new RN’s and LPNs and performs competency check‑offs for Professional Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and Health Care Technicians. The position also serves as a resource for increasing performance in staff requiring assistance in reaching their potential within their job role.

Work schedule is primarily 8:00 am to 5:00 pm when assigned to Educator/Preceptor duties. Works rotating shifts, weekends and holidays as needed to provide training and complete Educator/Preceptor duties.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities / Management Preferences
  • Analytical and problem‑solving are essential
  • Knowledge and skill in group theory/dynamics, nursing process and practice
  • Working knowledge of adult learning principles, teaching techniques, and public speaking
  • Ability to effectively teach nursing staff and other employees as appropriate through orientation and on‑the‑go job training
Salary and Recruitment Range

Salary Range: $62,044 – $102,371

Recruitment Range: $80,000 – $95,224

Sign‑On Bonus

A sign‑on bonus of $10,000 may be offered to the successful applicant(s) of this posting, contingent on the 2025‑2026 Budget Approval.

Eligibility for Sign‑On Bonus:

  • The employee has held a position in the North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system, within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date)
  • The employee has previously received a sign‑on bonus from any State agency
  • DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.

All Sign‑On Bonuses are contingent upon budget and final eligibility determination as of the effective date of hire.

Minimum Education And Experience

Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina and one year of experience as a Registered Nurse.
