Description
The 1:1 Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides one-on-one support to a student with specialized medical and personal care needs as outlined in the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP). The CNA assists in implementing the student’s individualized health plan under the direction of a licensed nurse and ensures the student’s safety, dignity, and access to the educational environment throughout the school day.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 medical and personal care support to the assigned student as directed in the IEP and health plan.
- Perform G-tube feedings and other prescribed medical procedures under the supervision of the school nurse.
- Support the student with mobility, toileting, feeding, positioning, and hygiene as needed throughout the day.
- Monitor the student’s physical condition, behavior, and comfort, immediately reporting any changes or concerns to the school nurse and EC Director.
- Assist in maintaining documentation of care provided, observations, and any incidents per school and medical guidelines.
- Collaborate with teachers, EC staff, and related service providers to ensure full inclusion and participation in the educational setting.
- Ensure compliance with infection control protocols, privacy laws (FERPA/HIPAA), and safety procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all student-related matters.
- Participate in required training sessions (e.g., CPR/First Aid, seizure protocol, G-tube training).
- Assist the school nurse and EC team with implementing emergency medical plans when necessary.
- Attend IEP or care team meetings when requested to share input on the student’s daily functioning and care needs.
- Perform additional responsibilities as needed based on the required scope of the work to ensure the effective delivery of services and alignment with organizational goals.
Requirements
Required Qualifications- Current North Carolina CNA I or II certification in good standing.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.
- Experience providing care to children or individuals with medical and/or developmental needs.
- Ability to follow written and verbal care instructions accurately.
- Strong communication, professionalism, and reliability.
- Previous experience in a school or pediatric setting
. - Knowledge of special education processes and IEP implementation.
- Experience supporting students with G-tube or other medical devices.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary is based on years of experience, degree of education, and level of expertise.
Funding NoteThis position is grant-funded and is tied to the specific student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP). The position is payable and authorized only for the 2025–2026 school year and will remain active only while the assigned student is enrolled at KIPP Gaston College Preparatory.
