Role Description
The Cloud support specialist is responsible for the support of complex Cloud solutions across the Azure Cloud provider. Typical day-to-day workload would focus on overseeing and participating in the support and maintenance of Azure and the application running on it. An ideal candidate will have a strong background in Cloud tech stack, with experience in providing technical expertise to Agile teams.
Note: This is a hybrid role
, requiring the successful candidate to go onsite into our Charlotte office at least 2 days a week.
This role is responsible for the support and management of services regarding SMBC Americas Cloud platforms, notably Azure, across all SMBC/Group Company entities in the Americas and EMEA Division. In addition, this role blends hands‑on Microsoft Azure support specialist and team mentorship, as well as supporting Java based applications.
- Support and implement scalable, secure, and highly available Azure Cloud architectures for Java enterprise applications.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to support the delivery of Cloud resources.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to drive cloud adoption, automation, and operational excellence.
- Ensure disaster recovery and business continuity planning are embedded in infrastructure designs.
- Maintain and update cloud documentation, diagrams, design specifications, runbooks and SOPs for supported services.
- Collaborate with security teams to enforce Imperva WAF policies, secure authentication flows and manage external user access policies.
- Delivery of Cloud infrastructure for partner solutions.
- Creation and support of automation and infrastructure as code solutions for resource creation and policy, leveraging Power Shell/Azure Dev Ops, Ansible and other approved corporate automation and orchestration platforms.
- Review and assess complex Infrastructure as Code and Pipelines as Code solutions in a highly reusable capacity.
- Participate in the automated implementation of monitoring systems, for event monitoring, alerting and metrics.
- Directly interface with development teams across all disciplines, to facilitate a closer relationship for collaborative implementations and knowledge sharing.
- Ability to support weekend and on‑call as needed.
- Collaborate with development and Dev Ops teams to ensure smooth CI/CD operations.
- Set up alerts, dashboards, and diagnostics for proactive issue resolution.
- Provide training and guidance to junior engineers and cross‑functional teams.
- Proficiency in Cloud services related to one or more Cloud providers including IaaS, PaaS and SaaS.
- Well‑rounded understanding of Azure infrastructure.
- Understanding of Azure application infrastructure design and implementation.
- Proven experience supporting technical projects.
- Firm understanding of and experience working under Agile concepts.
- Understanding of infrastructure as code development and iteration in either Terraform/ARM/Bicep/Cloud Formation.
- Strong operational experience and knowledge with Azure services:
App Service Plan, Web app, Function Apps, Event Hub, Postgre
SQL, APIM. - Familiarity with CIAM solutions and external identity management.
- Strong automation skillset with the ability to identify and create automation workflows.
- Sound familiarity with orchestration and automation practices at scale, with a heavy emphasis on designing solutions for other teams to consume.
- Power Shell or other scripting experience, especially with the goal of automation.
- Experience with monitoring and log aggregation tools such as Azure Monitor, Application Insights, Azure Sentinel and third‑party tools (e.g., Logic Monitor).
- Fundamental understanding of public vs private networking in the Cloud.
- Understanding of Git merging and branching strategies.
- Strong understanding/debugging experience when it comes to Java applications, infrastructure, databases, Azure networking, DNS and cloud architecture principles.
- Understanding of typical SDLC processes, workflow as pertaining to infrastructure.
- Understanding of CI/CD process using Git Hub actions/Azure Dev Ops.
- Basic understanding of Atlassian Suite (Jira/Confluence) is a plus.
