Job Title

State Energy Office Deputy Director – Wake County, North Carolina

Description

This is a time-limited, full‑time (40 hours per week) position with State Benefits for a maximum of 36 months. The role will serve as the State Energy Office Deputy Director, working with the Director to plan and manage programs, including the Weatherization Assistance Program and the Finance & Budget Unit. The position is responsible for establishing division and program goals, developing work standards, program management, and reporting fiscal performance to advance DEQ’s mission.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the Weatherization programs and the Finance and Budget Unit, supervising three program managers.
  • Assist with office policy and planning, monitoring and analyzing implications of policy actions.
  • Support the State Energy Director in establishing annual budgets and monitoring costs/revenue related to program funds.
  • Collaborate with the Energy Director and others to submit Federal grant applications and track implementation and reporting of federally funded energy programs.
  • Interact with other DEQ divisions, state agencies and Federal agencies to meet budget, grant and compliance obligations at the state and federal level.
  • Engage with the public and external partners as needed.
  • Develop and revise work standards and internal operating policies/procedures to meet agency, state and federal goals and objectives for energy policy planning and programs.
  • Work with Energy Office leaders to develop measures and evaluate operational goals, including workforce and organizational development, project management and marketing.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in agricultural, biological, engineering, environmental, or natural resource sciences, or a closely related curriculum from an accredited institution, and six years of progressive experience in environmental work, including two years in a supervisory capacity. An equivalent combination of education and experience satisfies the minimum requirement. Director level experience is required.

Salary and Benefits

Grade: NC22
Salary Range: $73,096 – $117,626
Hybrid telework option available; routine office and remote workdays.
