Salary Range: $37,377 - $65,408
ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Correctional Food Service Supervisor III, this position is responsible for shift operational activities including food procurement to ensure the proper amount of food is available to serve the offender population. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Providing directions to subordinate staff on post orders and operating procedures.
- Supervising the preparation and service of regular and therapeutic diets for the offender population.
- Planning, directing, and supervising the daily preparation and serving of food to offenders.
- Preparing, serving, and storing food; planning menus and planning menus using substitutions; and maintaining sanitation requirements and all related records.
- Using a computerized food and nutrition system to prepare and serve daily meals.
- Knowledge of large-scale food production and food service activities.
- Supervision of employees and/or offender workers.
MUST be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
There was an update to the salary range effective February 01, 2026. The new salary range is $37,377 - $65,408.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.
Note To Current State EmployeesThe salary grade for this position is NC07
. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase may result.

Southern Correctional Institution is located in Troy, North Carolina and houses up to 700 male offenders in a close, medium, and minimum custody facility.

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience in institutional food preparation and food services, in management of a commercial food service operations, or as a Correctional Officer

One year as a Correctional Food Service Officer
Or
An equivalent combination of education and experience.
