Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele night shift position at a Level 3 Trauma, Stroke and Bariatric Center of Excellence requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and a willingness to float across a regional hospital network.
Responsibilities- 457-bed Level 3 Trauma Center, Stroke Center of Excellence, Bariatric Center of Excellence, and Chest Pain Center
- Med/Surg Telemetry unit with an average daily census of 51 patients
- Patient population includes chronic disease, CHF, mental health, addiction services (IV antibiotics), COPD, diabetes, wounds, and geriatric care
- RN-to-patient ratio is 1:4–6 (acuity dependent); may increase to 1:7–8 during surge; CNA ratio is 1:7
- Common skills include cardiac rhythm interpretation, non-titrating cardiac drips (Cardizem/Amiodarone), tube/drain care, IV starts, blood product administration, and wound care
- EMR:
Epic - Equipment includes scales, GBS machine, transfer device, vein finder, EKG, crash cart, language interpreter, telemedicine cart, and doppler
- 12-hour night shifts, 1900–0700, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- No on-call or call-back requirements
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Floating is required across Region 1 facilities (Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, and Central Division including CMC Main, Mercy, and Levine Children's) within scope of practice
- Provide telemetry-monitored nursing care to a diverse Med/Surg population including CHF, COPD, mental health, and geriatric patients
- Department support includes a Nurse Manager, Administrative Clinical Supervisor, Clinical Supervisor, staff RNs, CNAs, Clinical Mentor, Rapid Response RN, and House Supervisor
- Orientation includes facility NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- Scheduling is done on a 6-week cycle
- RTO of up to 6 days may be approved, excluding holidays; any missed contracted hours must be made up at the end of the contract
- Must have been separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year following permanent employment before being eligible
- Required scrub color is navy blue

- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency with general Med/Tele skills including cardiac rhythm interpretation, non-titrating cardiac drips, IV access, blood products, and wound care
- Must be willing and able to float to all Region 1 facilities within scope of practice
- Candidate's permanent address must be located more than 50 miles from the home unit (local candidates not accepted)
- At least 1 professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN dated within the last year required for consideration
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
