Job Overview
New Hanover County is seeking a customer‑oriented healthcare professional to join the clinic team of the Health and Human Services agency as a Follow‑Up Nurse. The position provides professional clinic nursing services to adults and children in walk‑in clinics for sexually transmitted diseases, family planning, child health, and specialty clinics such as the Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program (BCCCP), Wise Woman Program, and Colposcopy Program.
ResponsibilitiesSchedule and coordinate appointments for various programs; correspond with patients regarding appointment times, abnormal lab results, prescription refills, and respond to patient phone calls. Serve as a point of contact for outside agencies when additional patient‑care information is needed; serve as a backup contact for positive syphilis and HIV cases, NCEDSS reporting, treatment, and referrals as required. Cross‑train to assist in all clinic programs, especially the BCCCP and Colposcopy clinics.
Document all activities in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and multitask with effective communication skills.
- 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM weekdays; flexible to work evening clinics until 7:00 PM on Tuesdays.
- Must be available to work during emergency situations.
Full‑time, Exempt
Salary and BenefitsHiring range: $59,168 – $79,877 plus a competitive benefits package. Salary is negotiable within the hiring range depending on qualifications.

Education and Experience
- Valid North Carolina driver license with a good driving record.
- Valid RN license – eligible to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina.
- Associate’s degree in Nursing that includes a public health nursing rotation OR graduation from an accredited professional nursing school.
- At least 2 years of professional nursing experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
- Public health experience and/or experience in a fast‑paced clinic setting.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
In compliance with G.S. 153A‑94.2(b), if this position requires an applicant to work with children in any capacity, the county must require the applicant to undergo a criminal history record check conducted by the SBI for all offers of employment made after October 1, 2025. These checks must be performed in accordance with G.S. 143B‑1209.26.
