Description:
This unit is transitioning to a Progressive Care Unit. The traveler will need to be comfortable with that patient population. The nurse should be able to titrate drips. This is a teaching hospital with various designations such as Trauma Level III and Stroke Center of Excellence. The unit has 14 private rooms without negative pressure capability. Patient types and common diagnoses include heart failure, chest pain, and those requiring fluid resuscitation or blood products.
The nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:4-6, depending on acuity. During surge times, this may increase to 1:7-8 in Med Surg/Tele and 1:4 in PCU. Required skills include IV starts, NG tube placement and management, and cardiac rhythm interpretation. Support is provided by CNAs who assist with ADLs and other care activities. The facility has 24/7 physician availability and telemetry monitoring.
Technology includes EMR systems and various patient monitoring equipment. Floating may occur within the region and scope of practice. Weekend rotation applies, and travelers will be expected to work 75% of holidays. RTO can be approved for up to 6 days off, excluding holidays. Scrub color is navy. The unit culture is professional and team-oriented.
