Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cath Lab/EP Prep and Recovery position requiring a minimum of 2 years of Critical Care, PACU, or CCU experience and a NC or compact RN license.

Details
  • Prep/Recovery unit caring for PACU patients post Cath, Vascular, and EP procedures
  • 12-bed unit seeing 17-20 patients per day, typically with the same nurse before and after procedure for continuity of care
  • Patient population includes R and L heart cath, structural heart, TAVR, Watchman, vascular procedures, EP devices and ablations, and possible carotid access procedures
  • Patients typically receive moderate sedation and are more awake and alert than standard PACU patients
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:3, varying by patient type (e.g., TAVR patients may be 1:2)
  • Day shift schedule, 7am-3pm, Monday-Friday, though most staff work 10-hour shifts
  • No weekend rotation or on-call requirements
  • Possibility to float to EP and procedural areas

  • Unit-specific equipment includes EKG, iSTAT, and glucometers
  • 24/7 respiratory therapy and anesthesia support available; APPs/NPs on unit 6:30am-7pm with MDs regularly present
  • 1 CNA on the unit at a time; charge nurse occasionally takes patients and assists with cardioversions
  • Bedside and nurses station telemetry monitoring available
Requirements
  • Active NC or compact RN license required
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of Critical Care, PACU, or CCU experience required
  • Skills in neurovascular checks, including Doppler use
  • Comfortable managing drips, most commonly nitro and heparin, with occasional pressors
  • Site management experience for femoral or radial access, including TR band or groin device compression
  • Post-anesthesia care experience with basic blood pressure management
  • Experience with swan-ganz catheters, temporary pacing wires, or arterial lines preferred but not required
  • Epic EMR experience
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
Additional Information
  • Provide prep and recovery care for patients undergoing cardiac catheterization, vascular, and EP procedures
  • EKG, glucometer, and iSTAT checkoffs completed during orientation
  • Orientation includes facility NEO and typically 1-2 precepted shifts
  • Schedule cycle runs 4-5 weeks at a time
  • Unit closed on major holidays
  • All requested time off approved by the manager
  • Scrubs (green) provided by the facility
  • Free, designated parking available for staff
  • Great unit culture with strong teamwork and positive feedback from travelers; repeat travelers are common
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be considered; local candidates not accepted
  • Returning employees must be separated from any Advocate Health Southeast facility for at least 1 year after working a permanent position
