American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Med/Surg-Tele position in an Emergency Observation Unit, requiring 18 months of Med/Tele experience and NC or compact RN licensure.
Requirements- Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
- BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience required
- Skilled in stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, and drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley insertion/management)
- Experience with PCA pumps and medication drip management (cardiac drips, Heparin, blood products, IVF)
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Last 4 of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
- Minimum of one professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Emergency Observation Unit within a 457-bed Trauma Level III teaching hospital
- 10-bed unit with an average daily census of 8 patients
- Common diagnoses include chest pain, syncope, and angina
- RN to patient ratio of 1:5 and CNA ratio of 1:10
- 12-hour day shift schedule ) on a 6-week cycle
- Weekend rotation of every other weekend
- No on-call or call-back requirements
- EMR:
Epic - IV Pumps:
Alaris - Medication dispensing via Omnicell
- Floating required within Region 1 facilities (Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, Central Division) based on staffing needs, within scope of practice
- Provide direct patient care within a Med/Surg-Tele unit supported by a Supervisor, Charge RN, Resource RN, 24/7 Respiratory Therapy, and Hospitalist coverage
- Resource RN assists with admissions and discharges; IV/VAT team supports phlebotomy needs
- Orientation includes NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- Holiday coverage required for 75% of holidays
- Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; unmet contracted hours must be added to the end of the contract
- Travelers are first to float to other nursing units, demonstrating clinical flexibility and adaptability across scope of practice
- If floating mid-shift, travel time between facilities is compensated
- Navy scrub color required
- Free employee parking deck available
- Team environment includes unit book club and other social activities
- First-time travelers not preferred but will be considered
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates not accepted
- Returning employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year after working a permanent position
