Description:
A teaching hospital with 457 licensed beds seeks a Registered Nurse for the PCU.The facility is a Trauma Level III center, Chest Pain Center, and Stroke Center of Excellence.
The unit features 14 private rooms and does not have negative pressure capability.
Patient types include heart failure, chest pain, patients requiring fluid resuscitation/blood products, COPD, and pre/post cardiac catheterization.
The RN-to-patient ratio is 1:4-6, which may increase to 1:7-8 during surge times.
CNA support is available at a ratio of 1:7.Required skills include PIV starts, NG tube placement and management, pleurx drain management, and chest tube management.
Cardiac rhythm interpretation and administration of non-titratable cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem) are also required.
Support within the department includes CNAs who assist with activities of daily living and mobility.
There is an IV/VAT team to provide support as needed.
Telemetry monitoring is conducted off-unit with remote monitoring capabilities for patients when ordered.
The use of an electronic medical record system and various specialized equipment is standard.
Travel nurses are expected to float to other units based on patient care needs and staffing demands.
Flexible staffing support across regions is required within the scope of practice.
Travelers will work every other weekend and will be expected to work 75% of holidays.
