Description Of WorkThe Plant/Waste/Solution/Media (PWSM) Analysis Labs at the Agronomic Division in the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (NCDA&CS) are pleased to announce the opening of an Agricultural Technician II position. You will work in a team environment that is high volume and fast-paced laboratory analyzing various sample matrices for North Carolina residents. From the lab results, fertility recommendations that optimize crop production and yield, maximize profitability and protect the environment are provided to the clients.
The primary purpose of the position is to receive, organize, dry, grind and prepare laboratory samples for chemical analysis.
Duties Include- Assisting clients with sample submissions, sample payments and educating them on proper submission procedures of laboratory samples.
- Receive, organize and prepare laboratory samples for chemical analysis covering various lab types for the PWSM lab.
- Use a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to enter sample data accurately and efficiently.
- Drying, grinding, and weighing laboratory samples using an analytical balance.
- Perform additional laboratory analysis as assigned.
- Maintain laboratory cleanliness and decontamination of laboratory glassware.
- Adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols.
The employee must be able to lift trays and boxes weighing ~40 lbs., push heavy carts, stand for extended periods of time, and perform activities involving repetitive motion of hands and wrists.
Normal working hours are 7:00am to 4:00pm Monday through Friday but occasional overtime may be required to meet established turnaround times.
The NCDA&CS Agronomic Services Division provides statewide diagnostic and advisory services that increase agricultural productivity, promote responsible land management, and safeguard environmental quality. The Division is comprised of three laboratory sections and a field services section with a combined total of 58 employees. The Agronomic Division maintains a very active, employee-led safety program and is recognized as a Public-Sector Star site by the NC Department of Labor.
Selected candidate must pass a fitness for duty/functional capacity evaluation post-offer paid for by the Department
A written practicum will be given to candidates during the interview.

Recruitment Range: $28,194 - $49,340
