About the Role
The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences is seeking a dynamic, efficient, and enthusiastic individual to serve as the Assistant Head of Safety & Security. The role supervises the museum’s security team, ensuring the safety of staff, guests, and collections.
Key Responsibilities- Directly supervise Security Services staff.
- Maintain security of equipment, exhibits, collections, and building structures.
- Initiate emergency procedures for accidents, injuries, fires, and natural disasters.
- Oversee operation of closed‑circuit television cameras and monitoring rooms.
- Manage inventory, distribution, and resupply of museum first aid kits.
- Knowledge of safety regulations, security measures, customer service practices, and emergency procedures.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to control dangerous or volatile situations and to make independent decisions during special events.
- Capacity to train and supervise subordinate security officers.
High school or GED diploma AND two years of supervisory experience in security at a large facility; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Physical Requirements- Work schedule:
Tuesday – Saturday, 9:00a.m. – 5:30p.m., with occasional weekends, evenings (4‑6 times annually), and holidays. - Must be able to obtain and/or renew First Aid/CPR training certifications.
- Occasional travel to museum satellite facilities (2–4 times annually).
Salary range: $37,377 – $44,329. A sign‑on bonus of $1,500 is offered for eligible candidates, contingent upon budget and final eligibility determination.
