Grade: NC 09. The position performs skilled work in maintenance, repair, and construction of buildings and facilities. Journeyman‑level work in two or more technical trades (electrical, plumbing, masonry, HVAC, or similar). The role supervises and directs inmates, performs preventive maintenance, and ensures safe operation of equipment.
Responsibilities- Perform preventive maintenance in the assigned area and ensure equipment remains safe and operational.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment by identifying hazards and completing repairs promptly.
- Complete assigned work orders generated through the maintenance management system.
- Order, install, and replace parts needed to maintain and repair equipment within assigned areas.
- Supervise and direct multiple inmates while ensuring compliance with safety and security procedures.
- Remain on site or stay over as needed to complete repairs throughout the facility.
- Serve on call during inclement weather and other emergency situations to support facility maintenance needs.
- Cross‑train in multiple maintenance trades to provide support across the maintenance shop and ensure operational continuity.
- High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two (2) years of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Journeyman‑level experience in electrical trade and in another trade such as HVAC, plumbing, or carpentry.
- Journeyman level experience in the electrical trade.
- Journeyman level experience in another trade such as HVAC, Plumbing, or Carpentry.
- Current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III, or Universal technician if required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart
F.
Salary range: $41,206.00 – $72,113.00.
