Buildings Maintenance Mechanic II – HVAC
The purpose of this position is to oversee the upkeep of City buildings and machinery. This is primarily accomplished by making repairs, obtaining materials and parts, and pricing equipment to be used for maintenance.
Please Note: An offer of employment is contingent upon successful clearance of a fingerprint screening. If the incumbent fails to obtain clearance through the fingerprint screening, they will not be able to access all necessary City buildings and therefore, may be subject to termination.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintains and repairs HVAC equipment in City facilities.
- Inspects and installs parts and/or materials on HVAC fixtures and/or machinery.
- Meets and oversees contractors for HVAC maintenance of City buildings and facilities.
- Inventories and orders materials and parts.
- Maintains reports and daily logs of work progress.
- Rotational on-call responsibilities.
Supplemental Functions:
- Performs other similar duties as required.
Job Specifications and Qualifications:
Knowledge:
- HVAC principles and practices
- Applicable local, state and federal laws, rules, and regulations
Licensing and
Certifications:
- Valid North Carolina Driver's License;
- EPA Universal Refrigerant Certificate.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:
- Positions in this class require: standing, fine dexterity, walking, lifting, carrying, sitting, reaching, handling, kneeling, crawling, pushing/pulling, climbing, vision, foot controls, balancing, bending, crouching, hearing, twisting, talking.
- Heavy Work:
Exerting 50 - 100 pounds occasionally, 25
-50 pounds frequently, or from 10 up to 20 pounds constantly. - Incumbents may be subjected to extreme temperature, wetness and/or humidity, respiratory hazards, noise and vibration, physical hazards.

- Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction
Required Experience:
High school diploma or equivalency and at least six-months of advanced study, with at least of three (3) years of experience; or the City may consider an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
