Electric Tree Trimmer I
The purpose of this position is to perform general utility line clearing and tree trimming within specified distances from overhead, energized electric lines, utility structures and right of ways under the direction of an experienced Utility Line Clearance Crew Leader.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists with daily utility vegetation management near energized utility lines, utility structures, and right of ways.
- Performs work near overhead, energized utility lines from a bucket truck or tree climbing, as required.
- Organizes activities and resources by checking stock and daily items of trucks and assisting with pre-trip inspections and job briefings.
- Ensures and performs preventative maintenance on equipment and hand tools.
Supplemental Functions:
Performs other similar duties as required.
Job Specifications and Qualifications:
Knowledge:
- Electric transmission and distribution systems principles and practices
- Operation of bucket trucks, tractors, chipper, and skid steer
- Proper safety policies and procedures
Basic Vegetation Management
Licensing and Certifications:
- Valid North Carolina Driver's License
- Ability to obtain a North Carolina Class B Commercial Driver's License. Failure to obtain within six (6) months of hire may result in termination.
- CPR and First Aid Certification or ability to obtain CPR and First Aid Certification. Failure to obtain within six (6) months of hire may result in termination.
- Ability to demonstrate proficiency in Tree Rescue and Bucket Rescue. Failure to demonstrate proficiency within six (6) months of hire may result in termination.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:
- Positions in this class require: standing, fine dexterity, walking, lifting, carrying, sitting, reaching, handling, kneeling, crawling, pushing/pulling, climbing, vision, foot controls, balancing, bending, crouching, hearing twisting, and talking
- Very Heavy:
Exerting over 100 pounds occasionally, 50 - 100 pounds frequently, or from 20 up to 50 pounds constantly. - Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperature, wetness and/or humidity, respiratory hazards, noise and vibration, and physical hazards.
Required Skills:
- Ability to read maps
- Ability to operate equipment and hand tools.
- Ability to climb and work aloft, as required.
- Ability to work after hours, as needed.
- Applying local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations
- Analyzing problems and implementing solutions
- Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
Required Experience:
High school diploma or equivalency, with at least one (1) year of relevant experience; or the City may consider an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
