The Town of East Longmeadow is seeking a manual laborer; working in conjunction with semiskilled work in operating light and medium duty motor equipment on an assigned basis and is required to be available to plow snow and sand streets as needed.

• Perform manual laboring tasks of a specialized nature requiring the application of skills and knowledge ordinarily acquired on the job, as well as the exercise of considerable physical strength and endurance, and frequently working for extended periods under adverse weather conditions.
• Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of trucks, motor equipment of light to moderate tonnage and frequent construction and maintenance equipment that require considerable job knowledge and manipulative skill.
• Load/unload trucks and other vehicles by hand or with material handling equipment.
• Other duties may be assigned.
• Work is performed under the supervision of an employee of higher grade who assigns work, maintains production and provides supervising advice and assistance or general supervision in accordance with accepted practice.

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in the operation of motor equipment.
• Experience in skilled and heavy manual laboring work.
• Working knowledge of the use of tools, equipment and materials commonly employed in work performed.

• A class D Driver’s License is required with a DOT medical card.

• Frequent exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, outside weather conditions, and extreme cold is expected.
• Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
• Noise level is usually loud.
