Job Duties
Join NC State University’s Utilities and Engineering team as a Utilities Distribution Technician and play a hands‑on role in maintaining the essential infrastructure that keeps our campus operating safely and reliably. This position supports NC State’s Main, Centennial, and CBC campuses, performing skilled mechanical and piping work, diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on critical utility systems, including steam tunnels, pump stations, heat exchangers, pressure‑reducing valves (PRVs), and grease traps.
You’ll have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, from routine maintenance and repairs to new construction, renovations, and welding projects, while helping ensure reliable utility services for research, academic, and animal hospital facilities. - Diagnose and repair equipment such as fans, pumps, receivers, steam lines, condensate lines, and pressure‑reducing stations.
- Inspect, maintain, and repair steam and hot water systems, including components like traps, strainers, expansion joints, and piping.
- Utilize welding technologies for torch work, including welding, brazing, soldering, and cutting, and fabricate parts from blueprints, sketches, and verbal instructions.
