Alamance County Department of Social Services is seeking a dedicated and mission‑driven Social Worker to join our In Home Services Unit. This is a vital, front‑line role for professionals who are passionate about protecting vulnerable children and strengthening families. In this position, the Social Worker provides in‑home services and serves as a primary protector and advocate for children under the age of 18.
Responsibilities- Initiate and conduct Family and Investigative Assessments.
- Respond to requests from all areas of child welfare including follow‑up home visits for assessments, in‑home services and foster care cases.
- Initiate Adult Protective Services and Adult Services cases and follow‑up contacts at homes or facilities.
- Transport clients safely and responsibly.
- Prepare investigative reports for the court, case record, and narratives for all contacts made during investigation and treatment plans.
- Prepare for and testify as an expert witness at court cases and hearings.
- Work with the public who may not agree with the laws, rules or policies and motivate and interact for safety of all involved.
Thorough knowledge of social work principles, techniques, policies and procedures. Ability to cite federal and state law. Knowledge of individual and group behavior, family dynamics, medical, behavioral and psychosocial factors.
Education & Experience- Master’s degree from an accredited school of social work (Child Welfare Collaborative) with one year of social work experience.
- Or bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of social work (Child Welfare Collaborative) plus one year of social work or counseling experience.
- Or bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of social work with two years of social work or counseling experience.
- Or Master’s degree in a counseling field with two years of social work or counseling experience.
- Or a four‑year degree in a human services field or related curriculum with three years of social work or counseling experience.
- Or a four‑year college or university degree with four years of experience in rehabilitation counseling, pastoral counseling or related human service field.
- Provide a certified college transcript and a letter of reference upon request.
Proficient in MS Office:
Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Valid N.C. driver’s license required.
Other Position InformationThis position is subject to reallocation contingent upon funding, agency needs, and client population. Work may be required during emergency or disaster situations, and staff may be required to staff shelter overnight.
