Vacancy AnnouncementHertford County is seeking to fill the following full-time position in the Social Services Department.
Social Worker II / Work First General Definition of WorkThe primary purpose of the Work First Social Worker is to determine eligibility for Work First benefits and to provide employment services and other supportive services to program participants in order for the participants to be able to obtain and maintain employment and achieve self-sufficiency rather than dependency upon public assistance.
Essential Functions / Typical TasksThe Social Worker evaluates, assesses, and provides supportive services, counseling and case management services to applicants who are referred through the local and state referral system. Work involves in-depth assessments of family dynamics and needs assessments and referral of clients and/or families with major medical/emotional or mental illness. Work also involves resolving problems of family dysfunction. Utilizing the support services of the Work First Programs and resources in the community, the worker aims to assist the client to explore their assets and deficits and to plan a remedial program aimed at mutually agreed upon goals, ultimately in employment and some measure of relief from dependence on public assistance.
This position also provides supportive services to the Work First recipients as well as non Work First recipients. These support services consist of the Crisis Intervention Program (CIP), Emergency Assistance (EA) 200% of Poverty Services, General Assistance (GA), and Food Pantry referrals to our local Food Ministry.
Work hours are 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Occasionally the worker may need to work past 5:00 pm to resolve a problem before leaving for the day.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
The Social Worker evaluates, assesses, refers, counsels, and provides case management to citizens of Hertford County who meet the requirements for each specific program.
Determines/re-determines applicant / client eligibility for Work First Family Assistance which involves obtaining all pertinent data concerning the client’s family composition, financial, employment and health status.
The worker will need the ability to speak and write clearly, convey information to others and respond appropriately in any given situation. Organizational skills are essential to meet designated responsibilities.
Education and ExperienceBachelor’s degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution, Bachelor’s degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of directly related experience;
Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two years directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects; work requires stooping, crouching, reaching, walking, and lifting.
Special RequirementsPossession of an appropriate driver’s license valid in the State of North Carolina.
