Position:
Juvenile Court Counselor (S)
Location: District 27, Western Region, Cleveland County, North Carolina.
Grade: NC09
About the RoleThe Division of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention is committed to reducing and preventing juvenile delinquency by intervening, educating, and treating youth to strengthen families and increase public safety. We seek candidates passionate about helping court‑involved youth.
Job Duties- Receive and process allegations of delinquent and undisciplined behavior.
- Assess risks and needs to ensure community safety and juvenile well‑being.
- Determine eligibility for diversion and recommend court actions.
- Provide case management for youths on probation, ensuring compliance with court orders.
- Offer aftercare, case management, and post‑release supervision for juveniles returning to the community.
- Experience in counseling or case management with juvenile/family populations.
- Strong communication and assessment skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Knowledge of North Carolina juvenile court procedures (preferred).
- Experience navigating complex family dynamics.
- Experience with professional case‑management documentation standards.
- Experience with socio‑psychological issues affecting at‑risk juveniles.
- Experience using the System of Care approach.
- Master's degree from an accredited institution AND one year of related experience.
- OR Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution AND two years of related experience.
- Completion of Juvenile Justice Officer Basic Training Certification (three weeks).
- Passes Criminal Background check, Drug screening, Psychological test, Sexual Risk Screening, and Physical exam.
- US citizenship, minimum age 20, valid driver's license.
$39,671 – $69,426 (step pay plan; initial salary based on education and experience).
Work ScheduleFull‑time, Monday–Friday 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.; on‑call hours, weekends, and holidays available on a rotating basis.
