Job Description: This is a full time probationary/permanent position. The employee is responsible for the full process of determining and re‑determining applicant/client eligibility in the Income Maintenance Section of the Department. Duties include interviewing clients to obtain required information, completing initial applications, verifying information obtained, determining eligibility based on state guidelines, performing scheduled program reviews, and processing case changes in accordance with mandated guidelines within the NC FAST system.
The employee must explain program requirements and options and refer clients to other program services as appropriate. Applicant must have computer maneuverability and good communication skills.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Applicant should have considerable knowledge of the program and areas of assignment and application processing. Should be able to read, analyze, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, and procedures to determine program eligibility correctly. Must communicate effectively and tactfully with people from varied social, economic, and educational backgrounds to obtain pertinent data and verify information for eligibility determination.
Must have general knowledge of all agency and community programs and services which could affect the client/applicant, possess good mathematical reasoning and computational skills, and be able to perform caseworker functions within structured time frames.
Graduation from an accredited associate degree program in Human Services Technology, Social Services Associate, Paralegal Technology, Business Administration, Secretarial Science, or a closely related curriculum; OR graduation from high school and two years of paraprofessional, clerical or other public contact experience that included negotiating, interviewing, explaining information, gathering and compiling data, analysis of data, and/or performance of mathematical or legal tasks with at least one year of such experience in an income maintenance program;
OR graduation from high school and three years of paraprofessional, clerical or other public contact experience that included negotiating, interviewing, explaining information, gathering and compiling data, analysis of data, and/or performance of mathematical or legal tasks; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
